Our Favorite Destinations in Mexico

January 3rd, 2018 by Dave Leave a Comment

We have travelled extensively around the world but we didn’t find a place as full of life as Mexico. Be it the spicy cuisine or the colorful people, Mexico is one place where you could get lost with ease and like it too. The vibe of this country is amazing and we found the people very hospitable and welcoming too. If we could shift to a new country, we will definitely choose to live here.

We have been to a dozen places in the country and here we count down our absolute favorites.

Teotihuacán

This beautiful destination houses some exquisite pyramids. Once the biggest city in ancient Mexico, it was a part of one of the biggest pre-Hispanic empires here. It is a small offshoot of the Valle de Mexico and is famous for the Avenue of the Dead. Pyramids can be found in La Ciudadela where the supreme ruler of the city is believed to have lived. Don’t forget to check out the fantastic serpent carvings at Templo de Quetzalcóatl.

Our favorite, as of many other tourists, is the Pirámide del Sol is 70 meters high and has 248 steps. The Pirámide de la Luna, Jaguar Palace, Quetzal Butterfly and the Temple of the Plumed Conch Shell are other spaces in this compound that you would love to see. A mural is very famous here, which is both extravagant and awe-inspiring. It is located in the Paradise of Tláloc in the Palacio de Tepantitla.

Tulum

We love this place because it carefully nestled from the east coast crowd and provides you luxury vacation experiences. Though the spot is becoming popular among luxury travelers, it is still not a hotspot, which makes it an even more enduring destination for visit. The little place is located right around some Mayan ruins, which are in perfect condition to date.

Apart from enjoying the wonderful experiences here, you will also love to see the bioreserves and several cenotes. These underground water-filled caverns are awe-inspiringly beautiful. The place remains quiet and quaint, even during the spring break.

Mexico City

This place is uniquely beautiful. It is the cultural capital of the country and lets you dab into the civilization, heritage and culture that Mexico boasts of. It is one of the largest cities in the world and introduces you to a multi-cultural experience that you won’t find even in the most cosmopolitan UK cities.

The Federal District in the area is full of gems in historic and cultural references. The city was founded in the year 1325 and was then called Tenochtitlan. The Spanish later called it Mexico. The 500-year old city has lots of pre-colonial and colonial history. You can get the best of Mexican arts, food and lifestyle here. The fiestas, restaurants and the various performance arts scene is thriving here. So, if you like to have fun without spending a fortune, this is the place for you.

These were our favorite destinations from the beautiful American country. Which ones do you like the most? Let us know in the comments and share your Mexican travel experiences with us.

The Most Underrated Travel Destinations in the US

August 12th, 2017 by Dave Leave a Comment

We don’t think about New York, Los Angeles and Washington DC when we think about travelling to the US. Instead, we like to explore some offbeat, lesser known destinations that help in getting to know the country’s culture first hand, without the need to visit bars and restaurants in big cities. Here are some of our favorite travel destinations in the US.

Sanibel Island, Florida

Whenever we are in Florida, we think about visiting the beautiful sunny beaches of the east coast. However, we don’t go to the crowded Miami beaches. We choose the Sanibel Island, one of the more interesting and charming beaches here. It is a gem of a destination, providing you 25 miles of beautiful recreational trails and sidewalks. The pace of this region is much slower, but that doesn’t mean it is bad.

The white sand beaches of this place and the seashells you find here are spectacular. The atmosphere is very family friendly too. The most beautiful of the beaches is in Lighthouse Park. It is famous for shelling and gives you great views of the gulf as well.  They are good for sailing and windsurfing as well. The theatres and restaurants are equally good here.

Geneva on a Lake

We fell in love with this place when we first visited. It is like a small theme park filled with arcade games and buzzing with activity. It gives you beautiful views of the national park a helps you enjoy Lake Erie in a truly unique way. The place is very family friendly and several kids and their parents can be found here, playing games and enjoying mini golf and carousels. The dance halls in the region were a rage in the 40s and 50s. Every summer, hundreds of families drive all the way from Cleveland and other nearby locations to this place and enjoy a great day by the Lake and the Ohio Wine Country.

Fayetteville

West Virginia’s Fayetteville is so beautiful, even fall looks like an artistic sketch in this place. This small town is the coolest that America has to offer. It has several historic buildings and the New River Gorge just makes it an even more splendid place to visit. The River is perfect for rafting and several hundreds of tourists flock here to enjoy washing along the gorges and the tremendous flow of the river. You can enjoy at the ACE Adventure Resort or Adventures on the Gorge.

Both offer you mind blowing horseback riding, hiking and even canopy tours that will provide you a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The art galleries hidden in the town are even more appealing. The boutique bed and breakfasts always feel like home and the local eateries are equally quaint and cozy. The buildings here are designed in Queen Anne, Romanesque Revival and Victorian style. The architectural aura of this place is simply amazing.

These were our favorite offbeat locations in the US that you could travel to. Of course, these places are not full of thousands of people but they are great for vacations, whether you are a solo or family traveler.

South American Gems That You Are Missing Out On

March 20th, 2017 by Dave 1 Comment

Our favorite destination in South America was Venezuela. This beautiful country had all the ingredients that you are looking for in a perfect trip- a vibrant culture, great natural beauty and a heritage that every Venezuelan is proud of. However, there are many more destinations that we love on this peaceful continent.

Here are some of our favorites.

Colombia

There is something beautiful and attractive about Colombia that you would want to cherish. Bagota is a beautiful little capital and even Medellin and Cali, the former cartel hubs don’t disappoint you. The country has pacific and Caribbean coasts and three ranges of the Andes. If you like to bask in the glory of nature, Colombia is the place for you. For salsa lovers, the hot Cali is a perfect destination. Parque Lleras is a hip district in Medellin which also features some mesmerizing Botero sculptures.

If you like coffee, go straight to the ‘Coffee Triangle’. Located in Armenia, Pereira and Manizales, this triangle lets you taste the freshest, most exotic and delicious coffee you have ever had. Jardin brings you an equally good coffee tradition with lots of song and dance. The Colombian Chocolate Club in the capital is for those who can’t get the dark devil out of their minds. Don’t forget to go on a cruise at Cartagena de Indias and explore some pirate history in Providencia.

Guyana

A former British colony, Guyana features natural beauty of the South Americas in the most spending way possible. The unspoilt jungles of this place will take you centuries back in time to the untouched, virgin beauty of nature. Its capital Georgetown is a nice place to stay before you move to the Iwokrama River Lodge or the Atta rainforest Lodge to enjoy a jungle retreat. The waterfalls in this country are simply amazing. Kaieteur Falls are located in the Kaieteur National Park, which is the talent single-drop fall in the world.

Suriname

Not many travelers have stories about Suriname to tell their friends but we do. This place was under the influence of the Netherlands for long but it managed to remain the wild and bone chilling natural beauty till date. You will find several Dutch-colonial sites made of wood in the capital city of Paramaribo. Move out of here to enjoy a wide network of rivers and vast, endless jungles.

French Guiana

This place is completely wild and provides you a real jungle outage that you will never forget. The French Overseas Department handles this territory and their Foreign Legion trains in the woods of this region. The Guiana Space Centre adds a touch of human brilliance to the land of the wild. The capital city of Cayenne is a magical land and will look like a little Paris of the Southern Americas. However, when you move to Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, you will find a darker side of history where penal colonies in Iles du Salut. Devil’s Island is the most famous of them all.

Do you like South America as much as we do? Let us know which destinations your favorites in the comments are below.
